Yesterday we had the opportunity to visit Epcot as the guests of our next door neighbor who is a Disney Cast Member.
The day started cloudy and grey but during the journey it started to clear up and by the time we arrived it was great. Warm and sunny just right for a visit to the Attractions.
Parking the car was easy, only taking a few seconds, and it was only a short walk to the entrance. Getting quickly through the baggage checks and turnstiles we were into the park and decided to head straight for World Showcase. This is the area that surrounds the lake and each represented country has an area of its own on which has been built typical buildings , shops and restaurants. All this is surrounded by immaculately kept gardens, water features and trees.
Our neighbor told us that it was about 1.3 miles around the lake and every yard was interesting and there was always something to see.
We visited on the last day of the Wine and Food Festival and each country had a kiosk where you could buy typical food and drink. It was great to try the different dishes and as it was lunch time we had the perfect excuse. As the portions were not large you could try as many dishes as you wanted. Additionally as there was an appetizer, entree, and dessert available you could try each of these in different countries.
On the way round we looked in all the shops and I found the Moroccan to be the most interesting as it was situated in a bazaar and it really did feel that you were in Morocco. The Great American Experience was good as well and we stopped of to listen to the Voices of Liberty. This was a choir singing in harmony below a domed roof which gave wonderful acoustics.
My wife was particularly interested in watching the Japanese Matsuriza or drum players. They perform on the lower tier of a Pagoda and the sounds they produce have to be heard. They perform at different times throughout the afternoon and being as you can get a timetable it is easy to ensure that you are in the right place at the right time to take in all the Shows that are available.
Eat to the Beat featured Jon Secada and he put in a performance full of energy and great singing. His backing group were good to.
Later in the evening we watched Off Kilter another group playing in the Canada section who wear kilts through their performance and the lead singer also plays the bagpipes. Later learned that they are actually a Celtic Group.
We ate in the evening at the Rose and Crown British Pub but be warned if you can make a reservation do so as they get extremely busy. even with a reservation we had to wait a short while. Generally the food was good and there was a varied menu. We were invited to watch the fireworks at the closing of the park from the Rose and Crown outdoor area and it was a great view. I am told one of the best on the site. So we watched the firework's in great comfort and it was a fantastic experience. The show is titled Reflections of Earth. You must go and see it if you get the opportunity.
By now it was a little after 9 p.m. and everyone was leaving. I was expecting to be stuck in a traffic jam getting out of the park but it all moved so well that we were not delayed at all. The end of a wonderful experience.
Check out some of the photos I took in the photo gallery.
Bahama Bay Resort is only about ten to fifteen minutes from Disney so it is the ideal place to stay when visiting Disney.
